Purchasing Assistant Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Assistant Manager to join our team. This role is ideal for a highly organized professional with strong negotiation and analytical skills, who can support support the Purchasing Manager in sourcing, negotiating, and procuring raw materials, packaging, and general supplies required to produce high-quality nutraceutical products. The role ensures timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services in line with the company’s standards, regulatory requirements, and global best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the development and execution of procurement strategies for local and international suppliers.
• Source suppliers and evaluate their quality, price, delivery time, and service.
• Monitor inventory levels and work closely with the warehouse, production, and planning teams to avoid stockouts or overstocking.
• Prepare and issue purchase orders (POs) while ensuring compliance with internal approval processes.
• Negotiate terms and conditions with vendors to achieve optimal cost savings and value.
• Maintain and update supplier databases, contracts, and procurement records.
• Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to company policies, local regulations (NAFDAC, SON), and global standards.
• Collaborate with finance to ensure timely payments and resolve invoicing issues.
• Assist with supplier audits and performance reviews.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives in the procurement process.
• Manage and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure high-quality procurement.
• Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data to determine reasonable prices.
• Support the Purchasing Manager in contract negotiations, vendor evaluation, and performance tracking.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procurement regulations.
• Prepare and present reports on purchasing, cost analyses, and supplier performance.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
• Experience with nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or food manufacturing companies is a strong advantage.
• Strong understanding of supply chain and procurement processes.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Good understanding of sourcing and procurement principles.
• Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
• Knowledge of importation processes and Nigerian Customs/NAFDAC regulations.
